Kwara United adopt Akure Township Stadium as new NPFL home ground
By Wale Mustapha
The Interim Management Committee has granted Kwara United’s request to use Akure Township Stadium as their new adopted home ground for the matches in the second round of Nigeria Premier Football League season.
Head of Competition for the NPFL, Dr. Sunday Obaseki on Thursday signed the approval letter that was copied to Ondo State Football Association and other concerned bodies, noting that the approval takes effect from Matchday 10 of the 2022/2023 NPFL abridged season.
“We are pleased to inform you that the NPFL has approved your request to adopt Akure Township Stadium as your home ground, effective from Matchday 10 fixture, Kwara United FC versus El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri,” the letter read in part.
“You are advised to put all necessary logistics in place at Akure Township Stadium for hitch-free games for the rest of the season.”
Kwara United commenced the current NPFL campaign at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan as a result of ongoing renovation at their traditional Kwara Stadium in Ilorin.
The Harmony Boys only managed to secure one victory from four home matches played in first round and held Shooting Stars to goalless draw at the same venue.
Their only win at the Adamasingba Stadium was the 2-1 win over Akwa United. They lost 1-0 to Group A leaders, Bendel Insurance and drew the others against Gombe United and Remo Stars.
Kwara United will launch their newly adopted home ground with a clash against Elkanemi Warriors when the second round commences on the 26th of March, 2023.
