Lamine Yamal’s World Cup prediction revealed in leaked Spain video
Lamine Yamal declared that Spain would return home as world champions before the World Cup final against Argentina, footage released by the Spanish Football Federation has shown.
The previously unseen video, published through the federation’s official channels after Spain’s victory, was filmed in the hours before the final. It captures the Barcelona winger speaking with striking calm and conviction as he prepared to play the biggest match of his career.
“We will return to Spain as world champions,” Yamal said shortly before taking to the pitch.
At the time, the statement could have been interpreted as nothing more than the confident ambition of a teenager. After the final whistle, however, it appeared to be a prediction fulfilled by Luis de la Fuente’s side.
Yamal’s influence on Spain’s campaign extended well beyond his goalscoring record. Although he scored only once during the tournament, his contribution was measured in the problems he created for opposing defences and the attacking threat he provided from the wing.
He featured in every match Spain played, missing out on the starting line-up only for the opening game because of a physical issue. From then on, he became one of the team’s most dangerous players, using his pace, courage and ability to break down organised defences to give Spain a decisive attacking outlet.
The footage also highlighted the teenager’s composure before the final. Rather than appearing overwhelmed by the occasion, Yamal admitted that he was not feeling nervous, while acknowledging the scale of what lay ahead.
“I’m not nervous. I think we still don’t fully realise that we are going to play in a World Cup final,” he said.
He then delivered a message that came to define his mentality during Spain’s run to the trophy.
“I never think about defeat. Losing never crosses my mind. All I imagine is lifting the trophy,” Yamal added.
Those words gained a new significance once Spain had completed its campaign as world champions. The video offered a glimpse into the mindset of a player who appeared to have pictured the defining moment before it happened.
Yamal will return to Barcelona on 12 August, but he will do so with a status that goes beyond that of a promising young player. At 19, he comes back as a world champion and as one of the leading figures of Spain’s successful campaign.
His performances and his confidence have strengthened the impression that Yamal is no longer simply being described as one of the future stars of football. After helping Spain lift the World Cup, he has placed himself firmly among the game’s present-day leading players.
