Las Palmas Secures Oghenekaro Etebo on Loan from CD Feirense with Future Option

Spanish club Las Palmas has finalized the acquisition of Nigerian midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo on a six-month loan deal from Portuguese side CD Feirense. The agreement includes an option for Las Palmas to secure his permanent signature at the culmination of this season, as reported by Completesportsnigeria.com, marking a significant move in the player’s career.

Etebo, previously linked with prominent clubs such as FC Porto in Portugal and Genk in Belgium, has chosen to join the ranks of LaLiga with Las Palmas, rejecting other potential offers in favor of this transition.

“Etebo arrives on loan from Club Desportivo Feirense of the First Division of Portugal. UD Las Palmas reserves the option to purchase the player. He can act as an offensive or extreme midfielder. At 23, he has already been a regular international with Nigeria,” confirmed a statement on the Las Palmas website, highlighting the versatility and international experience the player brings to the team.

The 23-year-old midfielder showcased his prowess in 18 appearances for Feirense this season, netting four goals, demonstrating his potential to make a notable impact in the Spanish league.

On the international stage, Etebo boasts a commendable record as part of the Nigeria U-23 team that clinched the African title in 2015. Additionally, he contributed to Nigeria’s Olympic success, securing a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. Notably, Etebo was recognized as the Promising African Talent at the 2015 Aiteo CAF Awards, solidifying his status as a burgeoning talent.

Las Palmas, currently placed 19th in the 20-team Spanish La Liga table, anticipates Etebo’s arrival to fortify their squad. With just two wins, four draws, and 15 defeats from 21 games, the addition of Etebo signifies a strategic move aimed at enhancing their midfield strength and boosting the team’s performance in the league.
