Leicester City and Fleetwood Play Out Stalemate in FA Cup Third Round, Forcing Replay

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was rested during Leicester City’s Emirates FA Cup third-round clash against Fleetwood, with the encounter ending in a goalless draw at the Highbury Stadium on Saturday. Ndidi spent the entire 90 minutes on the bench as the teams failed to break the deadlock.

His compatriot, Kelechi Iheanacho, entered the fray in the 80th minute, replacing Algeria striker Islam Slimani. Meanwhile, Ahmed Musa, the Nigerian forward linked with a loan move to Turkish club Bursaspor, did not feature in the match.

Both teams will now head to the King Power Stadium for a replay to determine which side advances to the fourth round of the competition.

Leicester City, fielding a second-string side, asserted control in the early stages, with Slimani missing a chance to score in the fourth minute. Despite their dominance, neither team managed to find the back of the net, and the visitors faced a resilient Fleetwood defense.

The game saw moments of near misses, with Slimani squandering another opportunity in the 67th minute. Leicester City manager Claude Puel introduced Marc Albrighton and Shinji Okazaki in the 58th minute in an effort to break the deadlock.

Despite Leicester’s efforts to secure a decisive winning goal, Fleetwood’s defense held firm, ensuring the match ended in a draw. The replay at the King Power Stadium will serve as a crucial decider for both teams vying for progression in the prestigious FA Cup competition.
