Leon Balogun rock solid as QPR keep EPL promotion dream alive

By Wale Mustapha
Super Eagles’ towering defender, Leon Balogun put up an impressive performance for Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday as they held Norwich City to a goaless draw in the English Championship.
Both sides went into the game with intentions to better their positions for a place in the playoffs at the end of the campaign and they gave a performance to reflect that.
It was a scintillating affair at Carrow Road, seeing both clubs remain in the promotion playoff picture after 20 games played this campaign.
The first half was filled with high quality moves with the best chance fell to Norwich talisman Teemu Pukki, but the Finn saw his fizzing shot hit the post.
The Canaries kept up their pressure in the opening interval, but appeared to have met an insoluble defense of QPR marshaled by Balogun and Robert Dickie who shut out both Pukki and Cantwell from getting aims at goal.
The game’s frantic pace continued into the second half, but this time it was QPR who looked to break the deadlock.
Substitute Chris Willock was destined to put the Hoops ahead but his effort rang the same post as Pukki’s effort in the first half.
Both managers made some excellent tactical changes that further increased the game’s tempo but it appeared the night was meant to see a barren affairs even with late surge from the hosts.
The result see QPR ending the Matchday 19 over Norwich with two points advantage and with a game at hand.
The Hoops will next host West Brom on Saturday while Norwich will be guest to Rotherham.
