Lesotho to host World Cup Qualifiers against Nigeria, Zimbabwe in Polokwane

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
The Lesotho Football Association has confirmed that the country’s senior men’s national team will play their upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
The fixtures, scheduled for next month, will see Lesotho temporarily adopt the South African venue as their home ground due to stadium compliance requirements.
The Peter Mokaba Stadium, a 2010 FIFA World Cup venue, offers modern facilities and is expected to welcome fans from across the region for the high-stakes qualifiers.
Super Eagles need to win the match as well as their last group encounter against Benin Republic while hoping results elsewhere favour them to have chance of qualifying for the tournament.
They currently have six points deficit behind leaders, South Africa and three less than second placed, Benin Republic.
The nine time African champions have not failed to qualify for consecutive FIFA World Cup since debut in 1994.
Eric Chelle’s side face an uphill task in their bid to top Group C while hoping to upstage Benin Republic in second place which qualifies the three time African champions for the Playoffs.
