Liverpool consider £150m double swoop for Paris Saint-Germain duo Barcola and Mbaye
Liverpool are considering a double deal for Paris Saint-Germain wingers Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye as they look to strengthen their attack before the new season.
The Premier League club are understood to be assessing whether to make an offer for Mbaye, while also pursuing his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Barcola. The proposed move comes after the departure of Liverpool’s former star Mohamed Salah, who has joined Turkish club Trabzonspor.
According to the English newspaper the Daily Mail, Liverpool are among the clubs to have shown an interest in Senegal international Mbaye. Manchester City and Tottenham are also reported to be monitoring the player.
Liverpool are increasingly concerned about the quality and depth of their attacking options and are considering a bid for both of Paris Saint-Germain’s speedy forwards. The club’s interest reflects their desire to add new attacking players before the start of the upcoming campaign.
Paris Saint-Germain are likely to demand more than £150m for the two players during the current summer transfer window. That figure would make any potential agreement a significant investment for Liverpool as they attempt to reshape their forward line.
Liverpool are hoping to take advantage of Barcola and Mbaye spending much of their time on the Paris Saint-Germain substitutes’ bench. They believe the limited regular playing opportunities available to the pair could create an opening for a possible approach.
The proposed deal would see Liverpool attempt to bring both players to Anfield, rather than pursue only one of the Paris Saint-Germain attackers. Mbaye has been identified as one of the players attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, while Barcola is also part of Liverpool’s plans to reinforce their attack.
The club’s focus is on improving its options in the final third after Salah’s move to Trabzonspor. Liverpool are therefore considering whether a combined approach for the two Paris Saint-Germain players could provide the attacking reinforcements they want ahead of the new season.
No offer has yet been confirmed, but Liverpool are examining the possibility of a double swoop. Paris Saint-Germain’s expected valuation of more than £150m could prove central to whether the English club decides to proceed with a formal proposal.
