Maduka Okoye: Super Eagles goalkeeper accused of abuse and neglect by ex-partner after Cardi B media storm
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is facing a barrage of explosive allegations from his former partner, just days after he drew global attention for high-profile public appearances alongside US rapper Cardi B.
Allegations emerge after Paris and Venice outings
The Nigeria international, who recently turned heads at Paris Fashion Week and during a dinner outing in Venice with Cardi B, has been accused by his ex-partner Jelicia Westhoff of abuse, infidelity and neglect of their child.
The pair’s outings in France and Italy had sparked intense online speculation and made Okoye one of the most discussed Nigerian footballers away from the pitch.
As debate over his appearances with Cardi B continued online, Westhoff posted a series of emotional Instagram Stories, alleging serious misconduct during their relationship.
“Imagine I shut my fing mouth, lied about what you did to me, so you could continue your career and all you do is fing embarrass us,” she wrote.
‘I made you. No one knew who you were’
Westhoff said she had supported Okoye before he became widely known, claiming she played a key role in his early career and personal life.
“You make me look like a bitter baby mother when I helped you when no one was there for you. I made you. No one knew who you were,” she wrote.
She further alleged that the Watford goalkeeper had been repeatedly unfaithful.
“Instead of loving us, you abused me. Cheated on me with men and women.”
The posts did not include dates, locations or additional evidence to substantiate the claims, and they remain unverified at this stage.
Claims over son and co-parenting
Westhoff also accused Okoye of failing to take responsibility for their child.
“You don’t take care of your one and only son. I don’t want to be with you. I will never forgive you,” she wrote.
She said she had tried to maintain a calm co-parenting arrangement but decided to speak publicly because, in her view, remaining silent had not improved the situation.
“Being nice and peaceful brings you nowhere. You are a rat and I wish I was just like you, but I tried for my son to be a good co-parent to erase your wrongdoings because you made me believe that I was the problem.”
Social media reaction and unanswered questions
Westhoff’s posts have triggered intense debate across social media platforms, with fans and commentators sharply divided.
Some users expressed sympathy for Westhoff and called on Okoye to address the allegations directly. Others urged restraint, stressing that only one side of the story had been made public and that no independent evidence had been presented to corroborate her claims.
At the time of writing, Okoye has not issued any public response to the accusations. There has also been no statement from his representatives, and no external verification of the allegations has emerged.
Spotlight on life off the pitch
The controversy comes at a time when the 24-year-old has been gaining significant attention beyond football, particularly in entertainment circles.
His appearances with Cardi B in Paris and Venice were widely shared and discussed on Nigerian and international platforms, blurring the lines between his sporting profile and celebrity culture.
The latest allegations have now shifted the focus from his on-field performances and glamorous public outings to questions about his private life and responsibilities as a father.
With only one party having spoken publicly so far, the situation remains fluid. Okoye’s next steps – whether he chooses to remain silent, respond publicly or pursue legal action – are likely to determine how the story develops and how it ultimately affects both his reputation and career.
