Mainz Boss Hints at Anthony Ujah’s Potential First League Start Against Wolfsburg

Sandro Schwarz, the coach of FSV Mainz 05, has suggested that Nigerian forward Anthony Ujah might be poised for his maiden start in Friday’s Bundesliga encounter against Wolfsburg. Ujah, who recently transferred from the Chinese Super League’s Liaoning Hongyun, is yet to claim a starting spot since his return to Mainz during the January transfer window, making three appearances as a substitute without finding the net.

In a briefing before the anticipated clash, Schwarz disclosed that Ujah is showing signs of readiness to be included in the starting lineup for the imminent game. Furthermore, Schwarz remained undecided about fielding former Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong in the upcoming match against Wolfsburg. He stated, “Ujah is fit enough to start tomorrow. Nigel De Jong has taken on his role commendably; we’ll see if he’s in the starting eleven or not tomorrow.”

Having secured a notable 2-0 away triumph against Hertha Berlin in their previous outing, Mainz aims to capitalize on their recent success and secure consecutive victories when they face Wolfsburg. Positioned at 16th in the Bundesliga standings, Mainz stands in the precarious relegation playoff spot with 23 points in the league table consisting of 18 teams.

The potential inclusion of Ujah from the start against Wolfsburg highlights Mainz’s aspiration to bolster their attacking options and secure a positive result in a bid to improve their standing in the Bundesliga. As the game approaches, the decision surrounding Ujah’s involvement in the starting lineup remains a point of intrigue for Mainz supporters.
