Morgan Rogers leads summer transfer spending as Al Hilal deal features among top 10

Morgan Rogers’ move from Aston Villa to Chelsea is currently the most expensive transfer of the summer window, with Al Hilal also represented among the leading deals, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Clubs across Europe have intensified their efforts to complete major signings, with less than a month remaining before the main European transfer windows close. Several teams have already committed substantial sums as they look to strengthen their squads before the new season begins.

The current top 10 could still change significantly. A number of high-profile players remain available in the transfer market, including Yan Diomande, Julian Alvarez and potentially Vinicius Junior and Rodri. Should those moves take place, their fees would have a major impact on the standings.

The deals currently included are:

1. Morgan Rogers – Aston Villa to Chelsea

The England midfielder currently tops the list after completing a move from Aston Villa to Chelsea. The transfer has become the most expensive in Chelsea’s history, and he is expected to feature prominently in Xabi Alonso’s plans.

2. Anderson – Nottingham Forest to Manchester City

Anderson joined Manchester City to strengthen the midfield of Enzo Maresca’s side. His impressive performances for Nottingham Forest last season earned him a move to one of English football’s biggest clubs, with the deal involving a substantial fee.

3. Sandro Tonali – Newcastle United to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have been particularly active after coming close to relegation last season. Tonali’s arrival from Newcastle United is the most expensive signing in the club’s history and makes him one of the costliest Italian footballers ever transferred.

4. A player from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur

Another arrival at the London club is set to work under Roberto De Zerbi after moving from West Ham United. Tottenham are determined to avoid a repeat of last season’s difficulties and have invested heavily in an attempt to compete once again with England’s leading teams.

5. A Portugal international from Paris Saint-Germain to Milan

The player joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter because of the intense competition for places in the French club’s attack.

He is now seeking a fresh challenge in Italy, where he is expected to become a leading figure for Milan.

6. An English striker from Newcastle United to Barcelona

He was Barcelona’s first signing of the current summer window, arriving from Newcastle United for 70m euros, plus a further 10m euros in add-ons.

The transfer was made at the request of manager Hansi Flick and the club’s sporting department, who believe the forward possesses the qualities required for the German coach’s style of play.

7. A young French defender from Stade Rennais to Liverpool

Liverpool needed defensive reinforcements after Konate’s departure for Real Madrid and have moved quickly to address that requirement.

The club paid 70m to sign the young French player from Stade Rennais. He made 21 appearances in all competitions last season but missed 13 matches because of a shoulder injury.

8. Crysencio Summerville – West Ham United to Al Hilal

Summerville became the first player on the list to move to Saudi Arabia. The Dutchman was relegated from the Premier League with West Ham United last season, although his transfer still brought the club a significant fee.

His performances at the World Cup, where he scored twice, attracted interest from several clubs. Summerville ultimately chose Al Hilal, where he will play alongside Karim Benzema, Darwin Nunez and other high-profile arrivals.

9. Maxence Lacroix – Crystal Palace to Chelsea

Lacroix is another Chelsea signing to feature in the top 10 as Alonso continues to reshape his squad with major spending. The French centre-back joined from Crystal Palace and signed a contract running until June 2032.

10. A young Swiss midfielder from Freiburg to Aston Villa

The midfielder was one of the standout performers at the World Cup. His displays for Switzerland, including three goals and two assists, attracted attention from several of Europe’s biggest clubs before Aston Villa completed his signing.

The English club paid Freiburg 60m euros for the young Switzerland international.

The ten players have all commanded sizeable fees and will face considerable pressure to justify the money invested in them. Their success or failure will become clearer once competitive football begins.
