Moses Simon Responds Thoughtfully to Former Coach’s Critique

By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles forward Moses Simon has offered a measured response to his former coach at Gent, Hein Vanhaezebrouck, as he reflected on his time at the club under the current Anderlecht manager. Simon, who made a stellar return to action in Gent’s 2-1 victory over Lokoren after a 10-day hiatus due to a toe injury, shared his perspective on the impact of Vanhaezebrouck’s departure on his playing style.
In an interview with voetbalnieuws.be, Simon acknowledged the influence of Vanhaezebrouck, stating, “He (Vanhaezebrouck) will always remind me of how much I earn when I make mistakes, that I have to justify the salary I earn.”
Vanhaezebrouck, who brought Simon to Gent from Slovakia side AS Trencin in 2015, played a pivotal role in the team winning the Belgian title the same year. Simon’s return to action marked a significant moment for Gent, contributing to their 2-1 triumph over Lokoren.
The report indicates that Simon earns €200,000 per year, a detail that adds context to Vanhaezebrouck’s coaching approach. Despite the critiques, the Nigerian international has showcased his value on the field, tallying three goals in 12 games so far this season.
Vanhaezebrouck recently defended his decision to position Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru as a winger, asserting that the 20-year-old was not ready to lead the club’s attack. As the narrative unfolds, Simon’s poised response adds a layer of professionalism to the discussion surrounding his relationship with his former coach.
