Naija Super 8: Remo Stars, Enyimba rekindle rivalry as Lobi Stars, Rivers United tango

The draws for the inaugural Naija Super 8 football tournament was conducted on Thursday in Lagos with interesting pairings that will bring about rekindling of rivalries.

After the conclusion of the playoffs held in Eket, Akwa Ibom last week, it all came down to six teams that qualified to the tournament proper while two clubs were announced as wild cards.

At the live draws held during Magazine show on DSTV, Africa Sports On, the duo of Akwa United and Sporting Lagos were announced as the two will cards clubs that joined Enyimba, Remo Stars, Rivers United, Lobi Stars, Yobe Desert Stars and Katsina United.

The draw pitched the latest champions of Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Enyimba FC in Group A along with Remo Stars, Akwa and Katsina United. It will be a repeat of what happened in the regular NPFL season where the trio Enyimba, Remo and Akwa were grouped together.

Similar scenario will also play out in Group B with Lobi Stars, Rivers United coming together again for the Super 8 haven previously paired together in the league proper. The duo of Yobe Desert Stars and Sporting Lagos complete the teams in Group B.

The Naija Super 8 tournament will kickoff on Friday 7th of July and will end on 16th of the same month with eventual champions smiling home with a giant trophy and star prize of #25m.
