Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen reveals reason for keeping mask on

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has explained the reason for keeping his mask on despite his facial injury now gone.

The 24-year-old sustained an eye socket injury during a Serie A match against Inter on November 22, 2021. The injury forced Osimhen to undergo surgery and he was sidelined for three months as a result of the facial problem.

The Nigeria international returned to action on January 17, 2022, and has been sporting the protective face mask ever since. Despite the injury, Osimhen ended up making 32 appearances overall for Napoli in 2021/22, scoring 18 goals in all competitions.

While still using the mask, he went on bettered his number as he led Napoli to its first Scudetto in 33 years with a string of impressive performances, while also reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

He also lifted the prestigious Serie A Capocanonniere trophy (Golden Boot Award) with 26 goals and was also given an award as Serie A Striker of the Season.

Many fans feel the mask was not just his trademark but also his superpower as in many superheroes and it’s now worn by children all over Naples and Osimhen revealed that the mask has become a trademark for him.

“I am so used to wearing it now that I think I always will,” the Napoli star told Tutto.

“I risked a lot that time, now it has become a sort of trademark for me.”
