Nasarawa United head coach Kabiru Dogo has expressed confidence that defender Victor Collins will make a significant impact following his first-ever call-up to the Nigeria national team.

Collins, who has been a standout performer for Nasarawa United this season, received his maiden Super Eagles invitation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Dogo, who joined Nasarawa United just before the start of the season, was quick to praise the 23-year-old’s qualities and is optimistic about his potential.

“Collins is a top-quality defender. I joined the team four days before the season started, and he has made a big impression on me since my arrival,” Dogo told Complete Sports.

“I believe he is a player who can become a regular in the Super Eagles. He has all the qualities to achieve this.”

The coach emphasized the importance of humility and continuous learning for the young defender as he embarks on this new chapter with the national team.

“The most important thing is for him to stay humble and keep learning. This will be a great learning curve for him,” Dogo added.

Dogo also commended interim Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen for his transparent approach to player selection, hinting that the best talents are being given the opportunity to represent Nigeria, regardless of their club affiliations.

“I must commend Coach Augustine Eguavoen and his team for their openness in the invitation of players to the Super Eagles,” Dogo said.

Collins’ impressive form for Nasarawa United has earned him a spot in the Super Eagles’ squad, and Dogo is hopeful that the young defender will take full advantage of this opportunity.

Nigeria’s next AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic will take place on Thursday, November 14, in Ivory Coast, followed by the final group match against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Monday, November 18.
