NFF congratulates Hon. Ayo Omidiran on Federal Character Commission appointment

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Honourable Ayo Hulayat Omidiran on her appointment as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The federation also expressed confidence in her ability to lead the commission effectively.

Speaking in Abuja, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON) described Omidiran’s appointment as a testament to the administration’s commitment to integrity, competence, and credibility.

He praised her long-standing contributions to Nigerian football, particularly in the development of women’s football.

“Honourable Omidiran’s name is synonymous with football in Nigeria, not only in the women’s game but across the entire sport,” Gusau said.

“She is a pillar of the industry, having founded and financed a football club, served on the NFF Executive Committee, and contributed significantly to the FIFA Women’s Football Committee.”

Gusau also recalled Omidiran’s impactful service as a two-term member of the House of Representatives, where she sat on the Committee on Youth and Sports.

He said the NFF has no doubt that she will justify the confidence placed in her by the president. A pioneer of women’s football in Nigeria, Omidiran founded the Omidiran Babes in the early 1990s and has been a tireless advocate for women’s sports and girl-child development.

She joined the FIFA Women’s Football Committee in the late 2000s and has served on several sports committees over the years.

The NFF wishes her success in her new role and looks forward to her continued contributions to sports and national development.
