NFF denies handing Jose Peseiro new contract as Super Eagles coach

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has refuted news of handing a new contract to Super Eagles’ coach, Jose Peseiro.
Media reports had claimed that the federation has extended the Portuguese deal till after the African Cup of Nations, AFCON taking place in Ivory Coach in 2024 and gave him a target of taking the team to semi final.
However, the NFF’s Head of Communication, Ademola Olajire, refuted the claims, noting that the NFF leadership are yet to open discussion on the contract renewal with Peseiro.
“I am not aware that Peseiro’s contract has been renewed. Such information will be released by the NFF when it happens,” said in the statement.
Peseiro was employed as Super Eagles’ coach on May 15, 2022 to replace Austin Eguavoen who was on acting capacity.
Sources report that the former Venezuela coach will be handed a new deal a move that reportedly going down well with some stakeholders, while other quarters claim Emmanuel Amuneke and George Finidi will be drafted in.
