NFF President confirms talks with Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu over new contract

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, has revealed that discussions are ongoing regarding a new contract for Nigeria senior women’s national team coach, Justine Madugu.

“I am sure when we decided to allow him take the team to WAFCON, most of you didn’t believe in what we were doing.” Gusau told journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana.

“So please, we are discussing with him and soon we will finalise.”

Despite leading the Super Falcons to the 2024 WAFCON title, Madugu’s future remains uncertain.

A top NFF source confirmed that the coach, who also made the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or Coach of the Year award, is yet to be handed a new deal, with the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers set to kick off in less than a month.

Madugu finished fourth at the 2025 Ballon d’Or award for the best women’s coach.

He remained the first African coach to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or.
