NFF urges fans to vote Victor Osimhen for FIFA Best Men’s Player of the Year award

By Monsurah Olatunji

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has called on Nigerians to vote for the Super Eagles striker in the 2023 The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
Osimhen was nominated for the award alongside current holder, Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, and Kylian Mbappe.
The red-hot Nigerian striker was a key factor as Napoli won the 2022/23 Serie A title scoring 26 goals and notching four assists in 32 games.
Unlike its more esteemed cousin the Ballon d’Or, The Best FIFA Awards involve fans in the voting process, “incorporating the views of the four pillars of the footballing world” according to FIFA’s official website.
Those “four pillars” are the fans (as mentioned), the coaches of all the national teams around the world, the captains of said nations, and submissions from a select group of more than 300 media representatives.
The voting was split identically four ways, with media representatives, national team coaches, national team captains, and fans getting a 25% say.
Public voting typically takes place on FIFA.com with each individual entitled to make one vote for each category.
Football fans are expected to vote for the player they feel should win the award.
The NFF took to their official X handle to campaign and create awareness amongst the fans and urged them to vote for the Napoli striker.
“Vote for our own @victorosimhen9 here’s the link to do so fifa.com/the best fifa,” the NFF posted.
