Niger Tornadoes strengthen squad with four key signings for new NPFL season

By Dayo Awoniyi

Niger Tornadoes have moved to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign, confirming the signing of four new players in a bid to avoid another relegation battle and push for a stronger finish.

The Ikon Allah Boys announced on Thursday the acquisition of goalkeeper Jerry from El-Kanemi Warriors, striker Abdullahi Isa from Kwara United, defender Hussaini Abdullahi from Abia Warriors, and forward Shimangnde Terdoo from Heartland FC.

The signings reflect a strategic effort to strengthen all areas of the pitch following a difficult 2024/25 season in which the Minna-based side narrowly escaped relegation.

Club officials are targeting improved depth, experience, and competition within the squad as part of a broader reset.

Goalkeeper Jerry, who delivered standout performances for El-Kanemi despite the team’s overall struggles, is expected to challenge for the starting spot.

In defence, Hussaini Abdullahi brings physical presence and reliability, qualities the club lacked in key moments last season.

Up front, the additions of Abdullahi Isa and Shimangnde Terdoo are aimed at rejuvenating a Tornadoes attack that ranked among the lowest-scoring in the league. Both forwards arrive with reputations as tireless workers capable of stretching opposition defences.

A club official hinted that more signings could still be on the way as Tornadoes look to finalize their squad before the start of the new season.

With these reinforcements and a renewed sense of purpose, Niger Tornadoes are hoping to turn the page and mount a more competitive campaign when the NPFL kicks off later this year.
