Nigeria get CAF procedure for Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed procedures for the Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Qualifiers, with Nigeria and 24 others participating in the series.

The draw for the African Qualifiers holds on Tuesday, May 30, with a total number of 25 countries set to participate.

The draw will mark the beginning of the journey to the next year’s Summer Olympic Games scheduled in Paris, France for women’s football in Africa.

The African qualifiers will kick off in July 2023 and will be concluded in April 2024. This will be spread over four rounds: home and away.

Two teams will qualify for the Olympics from Africa.

Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, RD Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia are the 25 countries that have confirmed their participation.

The Qualifiers have been divided into four rounds with the top seven ranked teams at the last Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) automatically qualifying for Second Round.

South Africa (winner), Morocco (Runners-up), Zambia (third place), Nigeria (fourth place), Cameroon (fifth place), Tunisia (seventh place), and Botswana (seventh place) are the top seven ranked teams in last WAFCON.

18 teams will start First Round with nine teams joining seven to make it 16 teams in the Second Round.

Eight teams qualify for the Third Round while four teams that will make it to the Fourth Round will battle for the two African slots at next year’s Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
