Nigeria National League searches for new Super 4 host after Yenagoa flooding

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigeria National League (NNL), Sajo Mohammed says the league is looking for a new venue after the heavy flood in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, washed away the match venue.
The Government of Bayelsa State intends to host the 2022 NNL Super 4 but a situation beyond control necessitated the postponement of the season-ending tournament.
The 2022 NNL Super 4 is meant to end the league season and decide the Champions of the second-tier NNL.
“We normally have the Annual General Meeting (AGM) where all the NNL clubs will attend to discuss the way forward. The assurance for the clubs involved in the NNL Super 4 is that we are trying to get an alternative venue.” Sajo Mohammed said on Brila FM this week.
The 2022 NNL Super 4 was supposed to hold last week but was postponed to this week before its indefinite postponement as the league look for sponsors in match venue as well as the state government that will host the tournament.
“Very soon, we will get back to everyone. Presently, the Super 4 can’t hold in Bayelsa State as planned. It’s not by our own making or doings but it can’t hold in the state due to the current situation of things as everywhere has been submerged,” the NNL CEO concluded.
The four participating teams; Bendel Insurance of Edo State, Bayelsa United of Bayelsa State, Doma United of Gombe State, and El-Kanemi Warriors of Borno State will have to wait for a new date to be announced by the league for the Super 4.
The clubs have sealed promotion to the top-flight Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) ahead of the 2022/2023 league season.
They replaced relegated MFM FC, Kano Pillars, Heartland FC, and Katsina United in the topflight.
