Nigeria Professional Football League is nothing to write home about – Ifeanyi Aniemena

Saudi Arabia-based Nigerian player, Ifeanyi Aniemena has expressed his concerns about the appaling state of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), stressing that the league is simply a waste of time for Nigerian players.
His views are coming on the heels of Nigerian league enthusiasts’ lamentations about the NPFL hiatus since July nad impact on dismal performance of clubs in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Rivers United emerged champions of the Nigerian topflight in July 2022 and since then, the country’s elite division is yet to return – a situation that saw former Rivers United man described the league as a joke.
“Nigeria Professional Football League is lacking behind in every areas. As far as football is concerned in Nigeria, we are lagging behind and just wasting time,” Aniemena told Brila FM.
“Giving the account of players that have played in the NPFL and what they have achieved after five to ten seasons.
“Is it about the field of play, injuries, contacts respect, transportation, feeding, housing, camping, seminar, football itself, and life after football? It’s nothing to write home about.
“Check the players that have played in the NPFL. A lot of them have nothing to offer,” he concluded.
Rivers United won the 2021/2022 NPFL title in July and remains Nigerian sole representative in the continent at the CAF Confederation Cup after the three other representatives crashed out.
