Nigeria vs South Africa Preview: Eagles aim to confirm supremacy over Bafana Bafana

on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semifinal of 34th African Cup of Nations, AFCON tournament at the Stade de la Paix, on Bouake on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles are gunning for their fourth AFCON title haven won the tournament in 1980, 1994 and 2013 while South Africa are also believing in clinching their second title since they won it as host back in 1996.
Jose Peseiro’s men are still unbeaten at the tournament winning four consecutive matches in the build up to the semifinal and will require same or more of those winning mentalities in the last two games to emerge champions.
The Portuguese tactician has instilled some level of tactical discipline in Super Eagles which has seen them keeping clean sheets in the last four games and is not expected to change the approach at this critical time.
More so, with the South African side that are very rich in depth, determination and stamina, the Super Eagles will required to be at their very best to fancy a chance in the final.
South Africa have proved many pundits wrong in this tournament. The team were not billed as semi-final favourites by most experts earlier on but here they are.
Coach Hugo Broos has been able to assemble a formidable South Africa side that can cause more upsets and surprises.
This will be the 15th encounter between both nations and their fourth meeting in the Nations Cup.
Bafana Bafana have not really performed well against the Super Eagles in the past as they won just two of 14 previous skirmishes between these teams, with five draws and seven losses.
Interestingly, South Africa are coming to the Wednesday’s fixture on the back of three defeats to Nigeria at AFCON tourney with two of those coming in the knockout stages.
The last meeting between both teams was in 2019 AFCON where the Super Eagles won by 2-1 in Egypt.
A pulsating and fierce encounter is expected in Bouake on Wednesday with South Africa hoping to end their mysteries against the Super Eagles.
