Nigerian fans and NPFL expert claim Okocha ruined Delta FA after PL comments

By Monsurah Olatunji
The ex-Super Eagles captain admitted that because of the professionalism, presentation, and quality, he would rather watch European football on a TV set than a live Nigerian football league.
The former PSG and Bolton Wanderers midfielder added that Nigeria needs to upgrade its organizational standard to attract quality talents and more sponsors for the league.
He revealed this on Friday in Nairobi, Kenya during the English Premier League Trophy Tour.
Following his statement, fans and football experts of the Nigerian League took to social media to react to the issue.
Notable NPFL expert, Tobi Adepoju took to his official X account to reveal how the 1994 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner was forced to resign as Delta State FA chairman.
“Okocha was supported by Amaju Pinnick & he was elected as Delta State Football Association Chairman which automatically made him a Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Congress.
“He ruined Delta State FA & he was judged to be the most incompetent Delta FA Boss in history. He was forced to resign before the Delta FA Congress impeached him, they were pissed and disappointed.
“When football fans call for Ex-Players to lead football administration in the country, I laugh at it. Let’s leave them to honour invitations from politicians and play novelty matches.”
Newsman media responded, “We also need to hear Okocha’s side of the story; apparently if he embezzled funds provide evidence. How can you say he ruined the FA without proper facts.”
Another user, Abiodun Ibrahim added “Someone that should be an ambassador for the league is saying this. To say he was once the FA chairman in Delta State. So sad.”
Omo Jaye Jaye then asked to point out the lies in what the legend said, noting that: “But is he lieing? Before the CR7 revolution in Saudi. An average Saudi would have done same.
“We want truths from Leaders but hate when people speaks there truth. Bringing Delta FA into it. I just feel you should have called him out. ‘During those his bad days at the helm’.”
Fet Olu tweeted in Okocha’s defense, saying: “Mere words of yours. One wld expect that anyone coming up with this claims wld back it up with papers, publication and documents.
“We know he was trying to change things and they threatened to impeach him, so he left their daily 2k for them… Pls go and rest jare.”
Asiru Adekunle said: “He had a chance to contribute his own to improve the local league.”
Meanwhile, the top-tier league (NPFL) will kick off on Saturday 9th with Shooting Stars hosting Plateau United at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
