Nigerian midfielder Joseph Okonkwo joins FC Suhareka
Nigerian defensive midfielder Joseph Okonkwo has joined FC Suhareka after a year without a club.
The 26-year-old has completed the move to the Kosovo side, adding experience from competitions in both Kosovo and Albania to Suhareka’s midfield options. No transfer fee has been disclosed.
Okonkwo’s most recent club spell was with FK Kukesi, whom he joined from KF Iliria in January 2025. He left Kukesi at the end of the 2024-25 season and spent the following year without a club before switching to FC Suhareka on 4 August 2026.
The midfielder made 13 appearances in Albania’s Kategoria e Pare during his career, scoring once, and has also featured 20 times in Kosovo’s Superliga. His record includes further appearances in the Relegation Superliga e Kosoves, the Challenge League and the Kupa e Shqiperise.
Okonkwo began his senior career in Kosovo with FC Vushtrria before moving to KF Trepca 89 in 2020. He later spent time away from club football before returning with KF Iliria in January 2024, where he played ahead of his move to Kukesi.
Born in Onitsha, Nigeria, Okonkwo stands 1.88m tall and is left-footed. His primary role is in defensive midfield, giving him a specialist position in the centre of the pitch for his new club.
The move takes Okonkwo back into the Kosovo football system, where the majority of his recorded senior appearances have come. His previous experience in the country includes spells with Vushtrria, Trepca 89 and Iliria, while his time at Kukesi gave him exposure to Albanian domestic football.
FC Suhareka have now secured Okonkwo’s services, with the Nigerian midfielder joining the club after his period without a team.
