Nigeria’s Flamingos have reached the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time after beating Brazil 3-1 on Wednesday night.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) congratulated the team after the Nigerian youngsters produced a commanding semi-final performance to secure a historic place in the competition’s showpiece match.

Queen Joseph put Nigeria ahead with a close-range finish four minutes before the hour mark. The goal gave the Flamingos a deserved advantage after they had impressed during the opening stages of the match.

Awawu Bashiru then took control of the contest with two goals in the second half. The winger struck in the 71st minute before scoring again in the 80th minute, leaving Brazil with a difficult task as Nigeria moved firmly into command.

Brazil reduced the deficit late in the match when Greise Kelly scored with a header. Her effort, however, was not enough to prevent the Flamingos from completing a memorable victory and reaching their first final at this level.

CAF celebrated Nigeria’s achievement in a post on its official X account.

“AFRICA, MAKE SOME NOISE! THE FLAMINGOS ARE WORLD CUP FINALISTS! 🤯💚,” the continental football governing body wrote.

Nigeria will face Japan in Saturday’s final as they attempt to win the trophy. The match will be played at Pitch 3 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco.
