NPFL 2023/24 MD2 Wrap: Remo Stars edge Rangers as Lobi Stars pip Sunshine Stars

The 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday two continued with seven games on Sunday with Remo Stars and Lobi Stars are among the biggest winners of the weekend.

Remo Stars opened their season with a 2-1 win over Enugu Rangers at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State.

The Sky Blue Stars had to come from behind to claim victory after Kazeem Ogunleye’s opener for the visitors.

Oluwaseun Ogunribide equalised in the 35th minute before Alimi Sikiru scored the winning goal in the 53rd minute.

At the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi, Lobi Stars edged Sunshine Stars 3-2. Samuel Tiza bagged a brace with Ajibola Adeleke scoring the other while Taiwo Abdul Rafiu and Michael Olulasi converted for the Akure-based side.

Gombe United beat Enyimba FC 2-0 thanks to goals from Alakwe Chijioke and former Kwara United player, Ahmed Jimoh at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.

In Ilorin, Isaiah Ejeh’s goal in the 45th minute was enough to lift Kwara United to a 1-0 win against Abia Warriors.

Bashiru Usman converted a seventh-minute penalty to help Niger Tornadoes to a 1-0 victory over former league winners and Nigeria’s sole representative on the continent, Rivers United.

At the New Jos Stadium, Mundi Bernard was the hero as his 12th-minute goal won the game for Plateau United against Heartland FC.

In Uyo, Akwa United and Sporting Lagos settled for a 0-0 draw.

At the end of Matchday two, all teams except Rivers United and Enyimba FC have picked at least a point, while Sporting Lagos and Lobi Stars both have four points at the top of the log.

Bendel Insurance, Doma United, Remo Stars, Bayelsa United, Enugu Rangers, Sunshine Stars, Plateau United, Gombe United, Kano Pillars, Niger Tornadoes, Kwara United, Katsina United, Abia Warriors, and Shooting Stars have picked three points.

Heartland FC and Akwa United both have a point each with the quartet of Bendel Insurance, Remo Stars, Rivers United, and Enyimba FC having an outstanding match.
