NPFL: Augustine Njoku calls for calm from Abia Warriors fans despite slow start

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Despite a challenging beginning to their 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign, Abia Warriors captain Augustine Njoku is encouraging fans to remain calm.

The Umuahia-based team is yet to secure a win after two matches as they prepare to face Sunshine Stars at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode this Sunday.

After suffering a 2-0 defeat to Remo Stars, the Warriors managed a resilient 1-1 draw against Akwa United in Uyo, a performance that left Njoku optimistic.

“We haven’t started as strongly as we’d hoped, but I wouldn’t say our play has been poor,” Njoku shared in an interview with Brila FM.

“After our first home game loss to Remo Stars, many fans acknowledged our effort on the pitch but pointed out our struggle to convert chances.”

Recounting the team’s ongoing development, Njoku stated, “We are still a work in progress. We’ve been together for close to two months, and I have strong faith in this squad. I believe we will finish at the top by the end of the season.”

He urged fans not to panic, adding, “I ask our supporters to be patient with us. Good results are on the horizon.”

In their upcoming match, Sunshine Stars will also be looking to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Remo Stars, having previously secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Bayelsa United in their season opener.

The stage is set for an exciting clash in Ijebu Ode as both teams seek to gain momentum.
