NPFL: Coaches sent off as Rivers and Plateau share spoils to confirm Remo Stars as mid-season champions

Rivers United and Plateau United played out a 1-1 draw in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter in Port Harcourt on Monday.

In a highly competitive match marred by red cards to both coaches, the visitors went ahead in the fifth minute thanks to Vincent Temitope.

Rivers United coach, Finidi George was sent off in the 80th minute by the referee for dissent.

Handsome Surveyor, who scored his first-ever goal for the Pride of Rivers, leveled the scoreline in the additional minutes of the second half.

After the equaliser, Plateau United manager, Mbewas Mangut was also sent off for dissent in the additional 13th minutes.

Rivers United dropped points and maintained their second position after 19 games as the league reached mid-season.

Plateau United occupy the 16th position with 20 points.

Remo Stars 2-1 win against Akwa United on Sunday, coupled with Monday’s result ensured that the Sky Blue Stars’ ttwo-point lead at the top of the log is enough to make them league leaders after mid-sthe eason and going into the New Year.

Meanwhile, Shooting Stars also maintained their third position with a hard fought 1-0 victory against Kwara United.

The Oluyole Warriors recorded victories in their last four games to brighten their continental hopes.
