NPFL/DMF Super Cup MD2 Wrap: 10-man 3SC hold Rangers as Enyimba pip Insurance

Shooting Stars continued their perfect build up to the new season as they forced Enugu Rangers to 1-1 draw despite playing the entire duration with 10 men in the Matchday Two of Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL and Dozzy Mmobousi Football, DMF Super Cup on Wednesday in Ikenne.
Shooting Stars were reduced to 10 men as early as fifth minutes into the match when their goalkeeper, Adeniyi Bamidele was adjudged to have left his line and stopped a goal bound move.
The former Rangers’ keeper would soon be replaced by Udo Okechukwu who did well in his stead. Despite the strength in numbers, Rangers were unable to break the defense of Shooting as both sides headed to the dugout with nothing to separate them.
Chidiebere Nwobodo shoot Rangers ahead with few minutes into restart as he reached to the end of a cross from Christian Nnaji.
One will expect to see a scoring spree from Rangers soon after with their numerical advantage but it wasn’t meant to be as Shooting Stars stood their ground and kept their shape well.
Samuel Ayanrinde out of blues scored the equalizer for Shooting Stars in the 65th minutes taking advantage of a let off in Rangers’ defense.
The Flying Antelopes as expected were all over their opponent from Ibadan for the last parts of the match but could not develop enough wings to fly past the Gbenga Ogunbote boys who were loaded with much Arsenals in their defense to secure the point.
In the other match that was played earlier in the day, Enyimba came back twice to record a 4-3 win over Insurance FC.
Chijioke Mbaoma opened scoring for Enyimba with a fine header, seven minutes into the game but Divine Nwachukwu levelled up for Insurance FC in the 30th minute.
Five minutes later, Micah Ojodomo rose high to head home Dede muoghara’s cross to get the second goal to put Insurance in front of the People’s Elephants.
Enyimba replied immediately to cut short Insurance celebration of Ojodomo’s goal three minutes later to make it 2-2 in the 38th.
Insurance subsequently found their rhythm and became enterprising as Sodje Stephens gave them the lead again in the 40th minute to win the first half for Insurance 3-2 against the former CAF champions .
Enyimba brought in dangerous Chibuike Nwaewu to boost their attack in the second half and the forward’s brilliance helped the Elephants to overpower Insurance in the 53rd minute as Chisom Okereke connected his through pass and levelled up for his side.
Four minutes later, Chijioke Mbaoma got an hattrick to make it 4-3 in favour of Enyimba.
The Benin Arsenals are scheduled to face Rangers in their next game at Onikan Stadium in Lagos while Enyimba will engage Shooting Stars on Thursday as the organisers have moved the competition back to it’s original venue.
The top two teams will battle for the 100 million naira prize money.
