NPFL: Enyimba coach gives reason for defeat at Elkanemi Warriors

By Wale Mustapha

Enyimba FC head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju, has attributed his team’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Elkanemi Warriors on Sunday to fatigue.

The People’s Elephants were edged by their hosts in the Matchday Eight fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), held in Maiduguri.

Abbas Usman’s first-half goal was enough to secure the win for Elkanemi Warriors.

Olanrewaju, while praising both teams for their performances, acknowledged that fatigue played a key role in his side’s struggle, particularly in the first half.

“It was a good game, and Elkanemi are a decent side,” Olanrewaju said in a post-match interview.

“We knew they would give us a tough game, and they did. In the first half, we struggled a bit due to fatigue.

“I think they had the better of the first half, while we controlled the second half. We created the first good chance, even though we didn’t score, but overall it was a good game and a good advertisement for the NPFL.”

Enyimba will now turn their attention to their next fixture, where they’ll face Ikorodu City on Sunday in Aba.
