NPFL: Finidi George takes charge of first Rivers United training session

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The new Technical Manager of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Rivers United’s Finidi George, has led his first training session with the squad.

The West African team reported to the Garden City Sports Complex inside the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, eager to get started under George’s leadership on Monday.

Finidi was in action and putting the team through their paces in his maiden training session.

He was appointed as the Technical Manager of the Pride of Rivers last week after resigning from his post as the head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team.

The former Enyimba FC coach led the People’s Elephant to the league title at the end of the 2022/2023 season in Lagos, a feat he hoped to replicate with the Port Harcourt based side.

He achieved that feat during his second season in charge of Enyimba.

Since his current side could not qualify for the continent, the focus is to get to the top three places when the 2024/2025 season get underway.

The former player of Calabar Rivers, Iwuanyawu Nationale, Snarks FC, Ajax, Betis, Mallorca, Ipswich, and Mallorca player is armed with the experience after his stint with the NPFL side while serving as Super Eagles Assistant coach especially at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire where the team finished second behind host.
