Head coach of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Kwara United, Azeez Mohammed is confident the planned parley of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NPFL and the 20 clubs will on Wednesday give a definitive timeline for the commencement of the 2022/2023 NPFL season.
With a lot of uncertainty about the kick-off of the new season, the wait continues for players, coaches, officials, and fans gearing up for the return of league action since July.
Despite the unpredictable atmosphere surrounding the upcoming season, Mohammed is hopeful the league will finally have the go-ahead to commence as expected on December 28 after crucial meeting.
“We want them to finalise the preparation for the league because training without competition is something that creates boredom for the team,” Mohamed told Brila FM.
“The players’ mentality and everything. It’s very difficult to control as a coach. It’s better for the players if they had known that the league isn’t around the corner after continental assignments, the team should go on a month break so that when they return, they will be aware that they are preparing for a new league season.
“What are we training for? It’s very important that preparation should be finalized for the kick-off of the season.”
Kwara United finished the 2021/2022 league season in the fourth position which qualified the team for the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup.
The team had since crashed out of the continental assignment to holders, RS Berkane of Morocco, and preparing for the new season.
