By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Remo Stars edged Sunshine Stars 2-1 to go nine points clear at the top of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table on Saturday.
The Sky Blue Stars took the lead in the ninth minute thanks to Alex Oyowah at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
They added another goal in the 28th minute from Ibrahim Abubakar.
Sunshine Stars reduced the deficit in the 67th minute courtesy of Mathew Sunday but it could not prevent them from another loss.
Remo Stars work 45 points after 22 games top the log ahead of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) with 36 points and 20 games played.
3SC could reduce the lead depending on the result with Plateau United.
Sunshine Stars, on the other hand, occupy the 15th spot with 24 points in 22 games.
The Sky Blue Stars were the most consistent team in the league, with a second-place finish in the last two seasons after a third-place spot three seasons ago when they freshly returned to the top flight.
The target now is to win the league title, and they are on the verge of winning their first-ever league trophy.
