NPFL set to unveil $7.5m title sponsorship deal before 2026-27 season
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will announce a new title sponsor before the start of the 2026-27 campaign, with the proposed agreement understood to be worth $7.5m over three years.
NPFL chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye revealed the plan during the league’s Annual General Meeting in Ibadan on Friday, 7 August 2026. He did not identify the company involved, but said the deal would provide increased financial support for clubs competing in Nigeria’s domestic top flight.
The agreement is expected to represent a significant commercial boost for the NPFL as it prepares for the new season. Elegbeleye said the additional revenue would result in “more money” being available to clubs by the end of the campaign.
“We are going to have a title sponsor before the start of the season,” Honourable Elegbeleye said on Friday in Ibadan.
“What this means is that there is going to be more money for the clubs at the end. In the next two weeks, we will call a press conference for the unveiling, and the media will be invited.”
The league chairman’s announcement means the identity of the sponsor should be confirmed within the next two weeks, when the NPFL plans to hold a press conference to formally unveil the partnership.
Although the precise financial structure has not been disclosed, the sponsorship is understood to be an initial three-year deal worth $7.5m. The arrangement would give the NPFL an opportunity to strengthen its commercial framework and improve the financial returns received by its participating clubs.
The incoming sponsor would replace Bet9ja, which has held the NPFL title sponsorship since December 2021. Bet9ja became involved after the former league managers, the League Management Company (LMC), signed a sponsorship agreement with the betting company in September 2021.
Elegbeleye’s comments were made ahead of the 2026-27 Nigeria Premier Football League season and came as the competition prepares for a new commercial cycle. The proposed agreement is therefore one of the key developments from the NPFL’s annual meeting in Ibadan.
The announcement also follows the reported decision that the champions will receive record prize money of N1bn from the 2026-27 season. Taken together, the increased prize fund and the proposed title sponsorship represent a greater financial focus around the competition.
However, the NPFL has yet to disclose the name of the prospective sponsor or provide further details of how the $7.5m will be distributed. Those details are expected to be addressed at the planned unveiling.
For now, the league has confirmed only the value and duration of the proposed partnership, along with its intention to complete the announcement before the new season begins. The deal would mark the latest stage in the NPFL’s efforts to expand its commercial income and deliver stronger financial benefits to clubs.
