By Wale Mustapha
The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL Super Six championship will continue on Monday with Matchday Two encounters at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
After an entertaining opening day that produced five goals in the three matches , one a victory was recorded courtesy of Rivers United’s slender 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars.
Earlier, eight-time champions, Enyimba FC surrendered the lead twice in their 2-2 draw against Remo Stars will kick start the Matchday Two against Lobi Stars by 2pm.
Both sides will heading to the encounter with the mindset to correct the mistakes noticed in their previous games.
While the People’s Elephants could not hold on to a lead which they paid dearly in the Remo’s game, Lobi Stars will coming to the Monday’s match to right the wrong of profligacies they experienced against Insurance.
A victory for either side will set a different tone and dimension to the Super Six while another draw could dampen either side’s hopes of winning the championship.
Rivers United will be playing one of their biggest games of the season yet when they file out against Remo Stars for the second match of the day.
The defending champions are in the driving seat to defend the title following the win over Sunshine Stars.
They will need an upgrade of that performance against Remo who can cause damage to any team with ‘their never give up’ character.
The Sky Blues Stars’ on the other hand, are expected to raise their game, better than how they fared against Enyimba as they would not want to chase the game this time but be in charge of it.
In the late kickoff, Bendel Insurance FC and Sunshine Stars will be looking for nothing short of a win to put them back into major discussions for the title.
Sunshine Stars who lost the opening fixture to Rivers United are more under intense pressure to win. They will need something extra to achieve that against an Insurance side who seems to have forgotten how to lose a match.
The Benin Arsenals, however are expected to raise their game against the Owena Whales to get something decent other than a draw, that will boost their chances of lifting the coveted title.
The Matchday Two of the NPFL Super Six promises to be more exciting than the opening days as clubs are settling down to business and ready to put their feet in front to get the needed victories.
Lobi Stars vs Enyimba FC – 2pm.
Rivers United vs Remo Stars – 4:30pm.
Insurance FC vs Sunshine Stars – 6:30pm.
