NPFL: Waheed Omololu talks up Shooting Stars’ chances for continental quest
By Wale Mustapha
Shooting Stars’ defender, Waheed Omololu, is confident about his side’s chances of securing a continental slot at the end of the current Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Omololu, who has been one of the standout performers for the Oluyole Warriors this campaign, believes that the club possesses the qualities needed to finish among the top three teams.
Under the guidance of coach Gbenga Ogunbote, the team is currently in sixth position on the log with 49 points accrued from 31 games, six points behind leaders Enugu Rangers.
Despite expressing disappointment with his side’s recent slender defeat to Heartland, Omololu stated that they have moved on from the loss and are determined to use it as a catalyst to improve.
“It was a match we had hoped to win to further enhance our push for the league title and a top-three finish, but it didn’t go our way. That’s football for you. You win, draw or lose, but I’m optimistic we will bounce back to winning ways on Sunday when we host Sunshine Stars.
“We must put that defeat behind us and focus on the remaining games with the sole aim of winning those games, which is quite possible,” he told the club’s media.
Shooting Stars will face Sunshine Stars in a South West derby clash in Ibadan this weekend.
