NWFL Championship draw: Ekiti, Pelican and Lakeside, Imo know foes

The draws for the 2023 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Championship was successfully held at Remo Stars Stadium on Friday, with 12 clubs set to battle for the two promotional slots into the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

The second tier of Nigeria women’s football is scheduled to start on July 8 at Remo Stars stadium, Ikenne and FC Ebedie stadium, Sagamu simultaneously.

Dreamstars Ladies, Pelican Stars, Moje Queens, Kwara Ladies, Dannaz Ladies, and Ekiti Queens are grouped in Group A.

While Group B consist of newly promoted side from the nationwide, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens, Delta Babes, Lakeside Queens, Imo Strikers, Sunshine Queens and Honey Badgers.

The top team from each group with the highest point will automatically gain promotion to the lucrative NWFL Premiership, while the two teams with the lowest point from the two groups will be relegated to the NWFL Nationwide.

Pelican Stars, and Sunshine Queens were the two teams that got relegated from the Premiership in the 2022/2023 season to the Championship while the haul of Lakeside Queens, Eletu Queens, Imo Strikers and Delta Babes sealed promotion from Nationwide to the Championship.
