NWFL Championship: Oluwatobi Oyekan rues misses against Chosen Generation

By Saheed Afolabi
Unification Ladies’ Director, Oluwatobi Oyekan, expressed mixed feelings following his team’s 1-1 draw with Chosen Generation at the Saint Patrick College field, on Wednesday.
Despite a promising start with a fantastic goal from influential left-back Philomina Ologunleko, who scored from a 30-yard free kick, the team was unable to hold their lead as Mary Adekunle equalized for Chosen Generation in the 54th minute.
Oyekan acknowledged that while the team had addressed their technical challenges before the match, they ultimately fell short due to a lack of concentration.
“The honest truth is, I wasn’t expecting this kind of performance. In football, if you approach the game wrongly, definitely you shouldn’t be expecting a good outcome,” Oyekan told nigeriafootball.ng exclusively.
He continued, “We had done our assignment before today’s game and discussed certain technical abilities with our players, integrating them into our tactics. We expected to replicate the high intensity of our previous games, but it was the other way round. It was a complete loss of concentration, which we tried to address from a technical angle during halftime.”
Looking ahead, Oyekan has vowed to rectify the mistakes made in this match as his team prepares for their final encounter against Papa Soccer Angels in Calabar.
“Today is just one of those days where we were completely off. The performance was shambolic. Creating chances and not converting them says a lot. Our next step is to critically review our performance ahead of the last game and hopefully secure a win to wrap up the campaign.”
With four points from three matches, Unification Ladies need at least a draw in their final game against Papa Soccer Angels to secure their place in the second tier of women’s football in Nigeria.
