NWFL Premiership: Ann Chiejine rues Abia Angels’ missed chances despite win

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
After a hard-fought 1-0 win over Adamawa Queens on Wednesday in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership match, the coach of Abia Angels, Ann Chiejine is unsatisfied with her side’s profilgacy.
Abia Angels had to rely on Nkechi Agams’ 86th-minute goal to upend visitors, Adamawa Queens to pick its second win of the campaign and the manager assures her team will work on converting their chances.
“We have seen that we lack scoring and will do something about it to go back to the drawing board. We will try to see what we can do to make sure that we score more goals,” Chiejine told pressmen.
“The team created so many chances but couldn’t score them. Every team that comes to this place don’t want to lose. I just told the girls to play their game. Thank God we won. We were playing the same pattern with the opponent with up balls.”
Abia Angels have won two of its opening four games of the league season, losing one and drawing one and they occupy the third position in Group B with seven points – behind second Nasarawa Amazons (7 points) and group leaders Edo Queens (12 points).
The team will face group leaders, Edo Queens on Wednesday, January 15, 2023, at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State.
Last season, Abia Angels ended the season in the fifth position in Group B with 11 points, finishing behind Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, Delta Queens, and FC Robo Queens. Chiejine tutored side will hope to qualify for the Super Six this season with a top-three finish at the end of the regular season.
