NWFL Premiership Super Six permutations ahead of remaining matchdays

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

As the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six for the 2024/25 season approaches its critical juncture, the competition for the title has escalated into an exhilarating four-team battle with only two matchdays remaining.

The standings following Matchday 3 present a vivid illustration of the stakes involved: Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons are tied at 7 points, while Remo Stars Ladies follow closely with 6 points, and Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, and Naija Ratels trail with 4, 1, and 0 points, respectively.

The upcoming fixtures include Edo Queens facing Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels taking on Naija Ratels on Matchday 4, followed by Nasarawa Amazons competing against Edo Queens and Remo Stars Ladies against Rivers Angels on Matchday 5.

In terms of permutations, Bayelsa Queens, currently in the lead, require either two victories to secure the title outright or a combination of a win and a draw to remain in contention, while Nasarawa Amazons must win both of their matches to have a chance at the title.

Remo Stars Ladies need to secure victories in both of their remaining games to stay in the race, and Edo Queens, although mathematically still in contention, must achieve two consecutive wins to have any hope of success.

Bayelsa Queens remain favourites, but they cannot afford to slip. Nasarawa and Remo Stars pose credible threats, while Edo Queens could still spring a surprise if results fall their way. The title race is far from over.
