NWFL Super 6: Whyte Ogbonda hails Confluence Queens shock win over Edo Queens

By Saheed Afolabi
Confluence Queens coach, Whyte Ogbonda is delighted with the famous win against Edo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership Super Six encounter on Wednesday.
Confluence Queens delivered a lone goal victory over Edo Queens to nail three points in two matches thanks to substitute Osigwe Chukwuamaka’s 56th minute strike at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
And the former double Federation Cup finalists with Ibom Angels recounted how they overcame a tough opposition.
“As a coach of Confluence Queens, I am very happy because it hasn’t been easy for the team. For us to get to this road because I know that bookmakers didn’t give us but at the end of the day we were able to make it to the Super Six,” Ogbonda told media.
“With this result today, I am sure that we are going to qualify for the next round. It was a human error. Computers make mistakes like humans.
“I wouldn’t blame the referees. I wouldn’t blame the centre referee because she didn’t see the incident. I was only blaming the Assistant Referee and the Reserve Referee because they were the people expected to communicate the incident to the centre referee.”
Despite their narrow chance of reaching the final after opening 3-1 loss to hosts Delta Queens, Ogbonda vows to go back to the drawing board and work on the lapses of the team ahead of next season.
“What’s in my mind now is to go back home and work because I know with this result today, I am going to be at the next stage. We just need to go and work on the lapses discovered today. Definitely, I am already in the last four with this result,” he continued.
“Linda Jiwuaku is such a good goalkeeper bearing in mind that she was at the last FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. She is a national team goalkeeper and we can see that in her performance today after yesterday’s lapses. I think it was top-notched.”
Confluence Queens will have to wait for the result between Edo Queens and Delta Queens in the final group B game on Friday June nine to determine their fate in the playoffs.
