NWSL: San Diego Wave’s Chiamaka Okwuchukwu ruled out for season with leg injury

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye
San Diego Wave FC have suffered a major setback with the confirmation that Nigerian forward Chiamaka Okwuchukwu will miss the remainder of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season due to a lower leg injury.
The 19-year-old has been placed on the season-ending injury list, cutting short her debut campaign in the United States.
Okwuchukwu joined the Wave from Nigeria’s Rivers Angels in January and made an immediate impact, scoring just 1 minute and 32 seconds after coming on in her first appearance against Orlando Pride on March 29 — the second-fastest debut goal in NWSL history.
She went on to feature in three matches, netting once and logging a total of 144 minutes before the injury setback.
San Diego Wave are expected to provide further updates on her surgery and rehabilitation timeline in the coming days.
