Nigerian midfielder Izuchukwu Okonkwo has pledged full commitment to his new club, SK Slavia Praha, following his transfer to the Czech giants on a long-term deal that runs until June 30, 2030.
The 19-year-old, who is expected to begin his Slavia career with the B team due to pending visa formalities, expressed excitement over joining the most successful club in Czech football history.
“Slavia is a big club. I know it’s the biggest club in the Czech Republic. It has a rich history, wins a lot of matches, and has great fans and modern facilities,” Okonkwo said during his first media appearance with the club.
“Coming to the stadium is a dream come true. It’s a big leap in my career. When I saw the pitch, I was really excited. I’ll do everything to play on it one day.”
The former FC Van midfielder also outlined his ambitions to break into the first team and contribute to Slavia’s continued success.
“I want to play for a big team, in big matches, against top opponents. That can come true for me here if I keep working hard. I want to win trophies, write my name in the club’s history, and help achieve future successes,” he added.
Okonkwo joins Slavia following a standout season in the Armenian First League with FC Van, where he made 28 league appearances and scored six goals. He also played four matches in the Armenian Cup, scoring twice.
“This is an incredible feeling for me,” he said. “Slavia is a huge step in my career and I’m excited that something like this is happening right now.”
