Onuachu puts team ambition above golden boot after inspiring Trabzonspor win
By Oluwadamilola Olaleye
Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu says his focus remains firmly on the team’s success rather than individual honours, despite extending his lead in the Süper Lig scoring chart after netting in their 3–1 comeback victory over Konyaspor on Sunday.
Trabzonspor recovered from a sluggish start and an early concession to secure all three points in their Week 14 home fixture, with Onuachu once again at the heart of their attacking display.
Reflecting on the performance, the Nigerian international emphasised that collective achievement outweighs any personal pursuit of the top scorer award.
“It feels good to have 11 goals, but the most important thing is to win,” Onuachu said after the match.
“We started the match a little slowly and woke up after conceding. The team showed a good fight today. After the goal, we displayed our own game.”
Onuachu praised the unity and spirit within the squad, stressing that the team’s strong bond is driving their performances.
“This team has shown that it can achieve great things. I’m very happy for the team — we are a family. When my teammates score, I am as happy as if it were my own. Everyone is doing a good job. We are a family team,” he added.
Onuachu’s 11 league goals keep him atop the Süper Lig scoring charts as Trabzonspor prepare for a tricky away fixture against Göztepe next week, where he will look to maintain his prolific form while helping the club sustain their upward trajectory.
