Panathinaikos sign Nigeria midfielder Peace Efih on permanent transfer
Nigeria midfielder Peace Efih has completed a permanent move to Greek Women’s A Division club Panathinaikos from fellow Greek side OFI Crete.
The 25-year-old joins Panathinaikos after two seasons with OFI Crete, during which she scored 14 goals in 40 appearances. Efih said she was delighted to have secured the transfer and is targeting league success with her new club.
“I am very excited to have signed with Panathinaikos. I look forward to scoring many goals and helping the team achieve its main goal, which is winning the Championship. I can’t wait to get started,” Efih told the club’s official website.
The midfielder began her career in Nigeria with Rivers Angels, former champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL). She also played for Bayelsa Queens before starting her career overseas.
Efih has built up considerable experience across Europe. Before joining Panathinaikos, she represented Sporting de Huelva and Zaragoza CFF in Spain, Kiryat Gat in Israel and Sporting Braga in Portugal.
Her move to Greece follows a career that has included football in several different leagues and continued involvement with Nigeria’s national teams. Efih first represented the country at youth level, featuring for the Flamingos at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
She later progressed to the Falconets and was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Her performances and development through the national youth teams eventually led to recognition at senior level with the Super Falcons.
Efih’s arrival gives Panathinaikos a midfielder with experience from domestic football in Nigeria, Greece, Spain, Israel and Portugal, as well as a background in international competition with Nigeria.
She will now begin the next stage of her career with Panathinaikos, having set out her ambition of helping the club win the championship.
