Paris 2024 Olympic: Alloy Agu optimistic about Super Falcons fight back vs Spain

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Nigeria international Alloy Agu has expressed his optimism for the Super Falcons despite their opening defeat to Brazil in the Paris Olympic Women’s Football event.

The Super Falcons lost 1-0 to Brazil in their first Olympic appearance since Beijing 2008 and are set to face reigning World Champions, Spain, in their next group match.

Agu believes the team will learn from their mistakes and come back stronger against Spain.

“The Super Falcons were impressive against Brazil despite losing 1-0. In football, it’s either you win or lose. And it’s so unfortunate that the team narrowly lost to Brazil,” he told Complete Sports.

“With that result, we have to go back to the drawing board for them to see what they need to do well in the next game against Spain.

“Honestly, the Super Falcons are a team you can’t underrate no matter the team they play. Yes, they have lost the first game, and the next point of call will be how the team can bounce back against Spain.

“Spain has to prepare well because the Super Falcons will give them a run for their money. I am confident the team will get a positive result against Spain.”

The West Africans will look to get back on track when they face world champions Spain, who defeated Japan 2-1 in Group C’s opener.

The match is scheduled for Sunday, July 28, at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes, France.
