Queen Joseph hails ‘huge privilege’ as Nigeria reach U-17 Women’s World Cup final
Nigeria forward Queen Joseph says reaching the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is a “huge privilege” after her side defeated Brazil 3–1 in Morocco.
Joseph scored the opening goal in Wednesday’s semi-final before helping the Flamingos establish complete control of the contest.
Nigeria extended their lead in the 71st minute when Awawu Bashiru finished a move created by Joseph. Bashiru added her second goal of the match nine minutes later, converting a precise pass from Oluebube Umejiaku to complete the 3–0 scoreline.
Brazil pulled one goal back, but Nigeria held on to secure their place in the final.
Speaking to FIFA.com after the match, Joseph said the achievement was significant not only for the team but for the continent as a whole.
“I feel very happy. Playing in the final is a huge privilege, and representing my country on this stage means everything to me,” she said.
“I’m super proud of myself and my teammates because we made history. We are not just representing Nigeria herewe are representing all of Africa.”
The victory means the Flamingos will contest the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, with Joseph’s goal and two-goal contribution from Bashiru proving decisive in the semi-final.
