Raphael Onyedika bids farewell to Club Brugge after Eintracht Frankfurt move

Raphael Onyedika has said goodbye to Club Brugge after completing a permanent transfer to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, ending a successful four-year spell with the Belgian Pro League champions.

The Nigeria international finalised his move on Sunday, bringing his time with Club Brugge to a close after establishing himself as an influential player for the Blauw-Zwart.

Onyedika joined the Belgian club from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2022. During his time at the Jan Breydel Stadium, the defensive midfielder became a regular and played a significant part in Club Brugge’s domestic success.

The 25-year-old made 183 appearances in all competitions for Club Brugge, scoring nine goals and registering six assists. He also helped the club win multiple trophies and featured in memorable Champions League campaigns.

In an emotional message posted on Instagram, Onyedika thanked his former team-mates, colleagues and supporters for their backing throughout his time at the club.

“Dear Boeren, after 4 years the time to say goodbye is here,” Onyedika wrote on his Instagram page.

“It’s difficult, I don’t know where to start. I want to use this opportunity to thank each and every one of you that I have worked with.

“To the fans, we experienced a lot of joy, and in the tough periods we suffer and stood together. You guys never let me walk alone even in my down moments. You never stopped supporting me, and that’s something I will always be grateful for.

“We achieved a lot together. Can’t forget the amazing Champions League nights, the titles we won and getting the 2nd for the club.

“Wishing the club and fans all the best. I will always be following and supporting the club. This chapter comes to an end, but the memories will stay with me forever. Once a Boeren, always a Boeren.”

Onyedika’s departure marks the end of a period in which he developed into one of Club Brugge’s key players after moving to Belgium from FC Midtjylland.

He now begins a new chapter in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt, having left behind a Club Brugge side with whom he shared domestic trophies, European football and a strong connection with the club’s supporters.

The midfielder’s farewell message reflected both the difficulty of leaving and his appreciation for the support he received during his four seasons in Bruges. He also made clear that he would continue to follow and support the club after his move to the Bundesliga.

“Once a Boeren, always a Boeren,” he wrote, closing his message to the Club Brugge fans.
