OFFICIAL: Rasheed Akanbi returns to Turkey as Boluspor sign Sheriff Tiraspol striker

By Dayo Awoniyi

Turkish First League side Boluspor have announced the signing of Nigerian forward Rasheed Akanbi from Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol on a two-year contract, marking the striker’s return to Turkish football.

The 26-year-old goal scorer rejoins familiar ground, having previously featured in Turkey for Menemen Futbol Kulübü and Kocaelispor before moving to Sheriff Tiraspol in 2022.

During his time in Moldova, Akanbi built a reputation as one of the league’s most clinical finishers.

He scored 18 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions, playing a pivotal role in Sheriff’s domestic success and their UEFA competition campaigns.

Renowned for his physicality, aerial prowess, and composure in front of goal, Akanbi is expected to significantly bolster Boluspor’s attacking threat as the club aims to secure promotion to the Turkish Süper Lig.

A graduate of Lagos-based 36Lion FC, Akanbi’s steady progression through European football has drawn recognition, with Boluspor banking on his experience and proven goal-scoring record to elevate their fortunes in the upcoming campaign.
